We’re on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.
We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!
Your role:
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to help shape long‑term neighbourhood transformation through Wigan’s two Pride in Place programmes in Marsh Green & Laithwaite and Platt Bridge & Spring View. Delivering the missions at the heart of our Progress With Unity approach, you’ll work with residents, the Neighbourhood Board and Chair, partners and council services to co‑create a 10‑year vision and 4‑year investment plan. You’ll lead asset‑based community engagement, manage governance, risks and reporting, and turn local priorities into deliverable projects. You’ll also support funding propositions and business cases to secure investment that delivers meaningful, lasting change for our neighbourhoods.
About you:
You’ll be passionate about working with communities and confident engaging with residents, partners and local leaders. You enjoy immersing yourself in the neighbourhood, getting to know its people and strengths. Skilled in asset‑based community engagement, you’re comfortable facilitating workshops, delivering presentations and turning local priorities into well‑scoped projects. With strong project management experience and clear communication skills, you work effectively in complex, multi‑agency environments. Highly organised, you manage board governance and reporting progress with precision and you’re motivated by helping neighbourhoods shape meaningful, long‑term change.
About us:
Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or ‘unbroken’ between the supporting organisations.
The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our two place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.
This role offers the chance to be part of a groundbreaking, community‑led transformation programme delivering the long‑term vision for two of our local neighbourhoods (Marsh Green & Laithwaite and Platt Bridge and Springview). You’ll join a committed wider support team and contribute to long‑term improvements in places that matter. The role will have a priority focus of working in one of the two neighbourhoods in the Pride in Place Programme and you will work alongside two other Project Managers in the programme and provide peer support for each other. It’s a rare opportunity to blend project delivery, community development and strategic collaboration to create lasting impact.
Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits click here to find out more about working for Team Wigan.
If you’d like to know more information and ask any questions about the role or the Pride in Place Programme – please email Andy Mahoney a.mahoney@wigan.gov.uk Programme Manager and we can arrange an opportunity for an informal conversation.
