HL’s website is a core part of our digital platform, providing prospective and current clients with information on our service, the stock market, news and education. Over the past year we have migrated to a cutting‑edge headless content platform and are now accelerating this to create seamless, personalised customer experiences across devices and channels. This is a full‑stack (React/TypeScript/Node.js) engineer role, passionate about delivering market‑leading digital experiences to transform the investing journey.
Responsibilities
- Build and run AWS Cloud‑native applications with TypeScript, Node.js and React.
- Develop infrastructure as code using Terraform and AWS services.
- Establish and maintain automated tests (unit, integration and end‑to‑end).
- Write high‑quality, secure, tested and performant code.
- Collaborate with a cross‑functional team to deliver high‑quality digital client journeys.
- Advocate continuous improvement in ways of working, quality, security, performance and CI/CD processes.
- Document all solutions to agreed team standards.
- Provide engineering support for existing applications when necessary.
- Coach and mentor peers.
- Participate in working groups and communities of practice designed to support the development team.
- Actively contribute to problem‑solving, debugging, root‑cause analysis and resolution of production issues.
- Perform code reviews and mentor developers on best practices.
- Operate within an Agile framework and DevOps culture.
- Write, assist in writing or review technical documentation.
Qualifications
- Experience developing and maintaining client and server‑side applications.
- Experience developing and maintaining infrastructure as code.
- Experience with AWS or similar cloud providers.
- Experience debugging, root‑cause analysis and resolving production issues.
- Experience with unit, integration and end‑to‑end testing tools (e.g. Jest, Playwright).
- Experience with integration and onboarding third‑party vendors, defining integration patterns and abstracting vendor APIs.
- Understanding of microservices and RESTful API development, including structuring, documenting, versioning, testing and stubbing/mocking.
- Proficiency with HTML/CSS (SCSS), JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Strong working knowledge of JavaScript libraries and frameworks, in particular React and Node.js.
- Fluent using Git (GitLab).
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and trunk‑based development.
- Aware of website performance implications, best practices and other non‑functional requirements.
- Excellent communicator (written and verbal) with good numerical skills.
- Logical, analytical and methodological approach to problem‑solving.
- Pro‑active, resourceful and able to use initiative.
- Pragmatic and focused on delivery with effective time management.
- Willingness to learn and desire to develop professionally.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with a headless CMS solution (Contentful).
- Understanding and appreciation of the Jamstack architectural approach.
- Experience with large datasets and integrating distributed systems.
- Experience implementing MarTech solutions such as Analytics, A/B Testing, Personalisation and Tag Management.
- Professional experience with AWS services such as Lambda, S3, EventBridge, SQS and ECS.
