Job Description – Platform (DevOps) Academy – Birmingham

We are launching the latest edition of our DevOps Academy starting 14th September 2026 in Birmingham, UK. You don’t need to have experience as a DevOps Engineer to join the Academy – what we expect is a strong interest in DevOps and willingness to learn. By participating, you will complete a 6‑8 week training programme (internal and external) and be introduced to Kainos’s way of working, gaining the knowledge and skills needed to start working on real projects.

As a Platform Engineer (DevOps), you will be responsible for helping to automate, build and support modern digital service platforms using public cloud technology. You will continually learn new technologies, industry best practices and be mentored by talented colleagues.

What to Expect as a Platform Engineer (DevOps) Joining the Academy

  • 6‑8 weeks training programme – internal and external training on:
    • Containerisation and container orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Automation of cloud services configuration (e.g. Terraform)
    • Agile software development methodologies and supporting tools (Scrum, Jenkins, CI/CD)
    • Cloud environments such as AWS and Microsoft Azure
    • Version control systems

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work with cross‑functional teams (engineering, testing, consulting, product management, security) to build, test and deploy high‑quality software.
  • Use latest technologies to deliver maximum user and business benefit.
  • Collaborate and learn from colleagues, fostering an open and inclusive DevOps culture.
  • Contribute to ensuring services are scalable, secure, reliable and performant.
  • Ensure services are available, secure and perform optimally, recommending continuous improvement.

Key Requirements for This Role

  • Proven experience working with Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure) and scripting languages for automation.
  • Troubleshooting and technical support experience is ideal.
  • Conducting root‑cause analysis to understand the genesis of a problem.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices.
  • Availability to start on Monday 14th September 2026.
  • Active SC Clearance or eligibility for SC is mandatory.
