Carisbrooke surgery has an exciting opportunity for a part‑time salaried GP to join our friendly and committed team for a minimum of 3 days per week. Due to the strong clinical team and streamlined administration processes, GPs can prioritise clinical quality over quantity and successful candidates will be encouraged and supported to exercise specialist interests.
Responsibilities
- Provide the full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract, as well as additional and enhanced services where appropriate.
- Provide other general medical services to meet identified patient needs.
- Make autonomous professional decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other healthcare providers.
- Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
- Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
- Develop care plans with patients in line with current practice protocols and disease‑management protocols, provide counselling and health education.
- Work within current prescribing policy.
- Be available and accessible to patients at all times as agreed.
- Maximise the effective use of current clinical computer systems.
- Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to an agreed standard.
- Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
- Undertake all duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, including reports.
- Take part in and lead on clinical auditing and data collection.
- Support undergraduate student training in the surgery.
- Support GP registrar training in practice.
- Attend team meetings and other clinical meetings as necessary.
- Provide short‑term emergency cover for unplanned absence of colleagues.
- Provide emergency on‑call cover for the practice.
- Provide cover for extended access as required.
- Be involved in developing primary care services to meet the needs of the practice population.
- Support health development and ensure health promotion work is undertaken to allow the practice population to make informed choices.
- Maintain managerial awareness of and compliance with all relevant organisation policies and procedures, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, and infection control.
- Undertake all mandatory training as determined by the practice.
- Commit to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based practice.
- Contribute to evaluated audit and clinical standards setting within the organisation.
- Adhere to GMC Good Medical Practice and maintain accurate and timely medical records.
- Engage with local quality frameworks such as QoF, Quality Improvement, and Prescribing Incentive Schemes.
- Reflect on personal practice through SEA, NHS appraisal, and patient complaints.
Service Development
Be actively involved in developing primary care services, ensuring access targets are reached and working closely with the practice team. Support health development and health promotion activities to empower the practice population to make informed choices.
Quality
Adhere to GMC Good Medical Practice. Maintain accurate and timely medical records. Follow national and local guidelines (e.g., NICE) and engage with quality frameworks such as QoF, Quality Improvement, and Prescribing Incentive Schemes.
Confidentiality
Respect patient confidentiality at all times. All practice staff must handle private information with care, ensuring it is only divulged to authorised persons in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
Communication
Recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and with patients and carers. Adapt communication methods to alternative preferences as required.

- Ensure appropriate professional registration and licensing is maintained via ongoing development.
- Participate in all training programmes implemented by the practice.
- Engage in annual performance reviews, personal development plans, NHS appraisal, GMC Revalidation and Licensing procedures.
- Collaborate with the practice on audit and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- MRCGP vocational training certificate or equivalent JCPTGP General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training, CCT).
- Full GMC registration.
- Eligibility to practice in the UK independently.
- National Performers List registration.
- Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU).
