Deputy Ward Sister/Charge Nurse

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of nurses to deliver exceptional patient‑centred care.
• Coordinate patient care on the ward, deputise for and support the Ward Manager.
• Ensure high standards of clinical practice, safety, and evidence‑based care.
• Identify and address challenges in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; develop action plans.
• Evaluate patient pathways and experiences for satisfaction and effectiveness.
• Support clinical audits and continuous improvement initiatives with senior leadership.
• Serve as key point of contact for patients, visitors, relatives, and staff, representing the patient perspective.
• Assist the Ward Manager in developing and managing staff rosters to maintain safe staffing levels.
• Provide leadership and management support to the Ward Sister and team for efficient daily operations.

Qualifications

• Registered Children’s Nurse with an NMC pin.
• Strong leadership capabilities and exceptional organisational skills.
• Excellent clinical expertise in child nursing, preferably with neurological and spinal conditions.
• Compassion to patients and families, and a desire to learn and grow professionally.
