Edinburgh Trams has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to join their team.

The addition of new services, industry‑leading levels of customer service and a range of dynamic initiatives have all contributed to Edinburgh’s tramway becoming one of the UK’s most successful transport systems.

As a part of the newly created engineering graduate scheme you will gain experience managing tram vehicles, systems, power, traction and infrastructure maintenance. In your first year you will work across the following areas:

  • Contractor & Function – CAF, Tram maintenance and repairs, Siemens Systems, rail, OLE and traction power, BUK Civils and depot infrastructure.
  • Authority to Work processes and controlling works on or near the tramway.

Upon completion of your first year you will be placed in a post to suit your skills and meet the business needs.

The initial contract is a fixed term of 3 years, with an opportunity to be offered a permanent post should you meet performance objectives and business needs. Salary will progress along our management pay scales, potentially up to an annual salary of £50,000.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management and maintenance of the tram and infrastructure engineering systems, including detailed monitoring and control of planned and reactive maintenance work, necessary approvals and certification of work for payment on a 4‑weekly basis, and close budget monitoring and approval of maintenance plan changes.
  • Work in partnership with the engineering team to effectively and efficiently manage, measure and improve maintenance activities.
  • Assist with operational incidents and events, and any other duties associated with the post as required.

The Role

  • Full‑time, 40 hours a week, primarily Monday to Friday with occasional night‑time or weekend work.

About You

  • You must have a relevant degree (mechanical or civil engineering) with a minimum Grade of 2:1.
  • You must be a graduate member of a relevant professional body.
  • You will have a flexible approach to work and tasks, with the ability to cope with competing demands and deadlines.
  • You will have strong written communication skills with experience of producing management information and reports.
  • Have a valid UK driver’s licence with one year’s UK driving experience.
