Role Overview

We have a great opportunity for an EHV Cables Project Manager to join our UK Transmission and Distribution (T&D) team.

WSP’s T&D team delivers electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltage levels. This role is to project manage pre‑construction and construction activities (from design to energisation) for large‑scale high‑voltage infrastructure and grid connections at voltage levels normally between 33 kV and 400 kV.

Our projects include feasibility, detailed design, procurement, construction, test and commissioning on existing or new substations and associated infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop EHV (33 kV up to and including 132 kV) projects’ initial functional requirement into compliant, cost‑effective engineering solutions.
  • Project manage the development and delivery of EHV cable projects (33 kV up to and including 132 kV) to time, cost, safety and quality.
  • Interface with customers as well as internal and external resources to develop and deliver EHV cable projects.
  • Undertake the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for developed EHV cable projects.
  • Effectively communicate with internal engineering and industrial resources.
  • Coordinate external service providers and administer commercial.
  • Visit sites to assess project requirements, meet with project team/contractors, monitor work progress, safety audits, discuss engineering difficulties, etc.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience managing medium‑large scale EHV cable projects (33 kV up to and including 132 kV) throughout the full project lifecycle from initiation, specification and design, tendering, construction, energisation through to project closure.
  • A good understanding of electrical distribution plant items such as switchgear, power transformers and overhead lines.
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering standards.
  • Excellent understanding of the H&S and CDM requirements.
  • Ability to undertake the role of ‘Designer’ and ‘Principal Designer’ under the CDM regulations.
  • Ability to travel to client sites and offices within the North East of England and Yorkshire.
