Consultant Intensivist

Substantive Consultant – Intensive Care Medicine

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic people to join our dedicated team in Critical Care at St George’s, St Helier and Epsom Hospitals, part of the St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Our Intensive Care Department consists of 11 consultants, 24 junior doctors and over 100 nurses and Allied Health Professionals across two units.

Schedule and on‑call duties

• Consultant of the week in St Helier ICU (08:00‑18:00 daily, plus over‑night on‑call weekends)
• 5 days in Epsom HDU (08:00‑18:00)
• Second on‑call shifts in St Helier ICU (08:00‑21:00 onsite, 21:00‑08:00 on‑call from home within 30‑minute travel distance)

Responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day clinical care for patients in the intensive care units
• Lead the multidisciplinary critical care team and coordinate with Anaesthetics, Surgery, Emergency, Renal and Medicine departments
• Deliver a 7‑day, 24‑hour critical care outreach service at St Helier Hospital and support expansion to Epsom by Summer2026
• Engage in in‑reach services to Medicine and other regional ICUs

Career development and education

• Opportunity to negotiate an additional clinical PA in a complementary specialty or subspecialise in an ICU area
• Accredited for FICM Stage1,2,3 training and development of CESR‑training pathways in collaboration with St George’s Hospital
• Expand echocardiogram and simulation training for the ICU team
• Provide education to other teams and undergraduate students from St George’s Hospital Medical School
