Job overview

We are seeking Healthcare Support Workers (HCSW) to commence on Lowton ward, a medical assessment unit.

We are recruiting to a 2 x 36 hour per week posts and 1 x 23.5 hour per week posts. Shifts will be based on a rota pattern Monday – Sunday including days and nights.

One of the 36 hour per week roles we are appointing to is a temporary post for 12 months to provide secondment cover. NHS Employees will need to obtain secondment approval from their current manager if appointed to this post and this will be a condition of any offer made. Whilst this post is advertised on a fixed term / secondment basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Assist patients with the provision of washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.
  • Assist qualified nursing and medical staff where requested.
  • Communicate with all members of the team to maintain a good service provision.
  • Ensure that all patients are able to meet their hygiene needs, providing a level of assistance appropriate to the individual.
  • Prepare and support the patient appropriately during any activity that is to be undertaken.
  • Alert the registered nurse where you notice any changes in the patient’s health and well-being or any possible risks.
  • Ensure effective use of material resources/supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.
  • Assist with the general cleaning and re-stocking of resources where appropriate as well as cleaning and preparing patients beds.
  • Contribute to own personal development and take an active part in learning opportunities.

  • Flexible and able to work on any ward and site within the Trust
  • Ability to work internal rotational shifts
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation
