Social Worker – Family Help – South Locality

Location: Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire

Salary: £36,363 – £45,777 per annum (including market rate supplement, welcome payment and relocation allowance)

Contract: Permanent, 37 hours per week

Introduction

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated qualified Social Worker to join our Family Help locality team. You will work closely with children, families, colleagues and partner agencies to provide support and interventions that promote the wellbeing, safety and positive outcomes for children on a Family Help plan.

Responsibilities

  • Safeguard children and support timely protective interventions in partnership with the Multi‑Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT).
  • Lead and manage a complex caseload as the Family Help Lead Practitioner, delivering effective help, protection and intervention.
  • Assess needs, identify risks and develop tailored Family Help Plans, coordinating with partner agencies.
  • Chair and contribute to key meetings: Child in Need, core group and strategy discussions.
  • Conduct risk assessments, recordkeeping and report writing, including court work and decision‑making.
  • Build restorative relationships with families and professionals to enable meaningful change.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Social Worker (Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent) with current Social Work England registration.
  • Experience working with children and families in a statutory social care setting and strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection and relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated skill in risk assessment, analysis of complex family dynamics and effective interventions.
  • Excellent communication, listening and observation skills; ability to work restoratively.
  • Organised, resilient, capable of managing a demanding workload and maintaining accurate records.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and high standards of practice.
