Position Overview

Peel Medical Practice is looking for a Medical Receptionist Administrator who is professional, flexible & reliable with a track record of excellent customer service skills. This role joins a team of Receptionist Administrators working a 5‑day week to support patients and the multidisciplinary team. The position requires flexible working hours, including extended commitments that may involve an 8pm finish or Saturday morning turnaround.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct reception and sign‑posting service to patients and visitors.
  • Handle general enquiries, explain procedures, and arrange new and follow‑up appointments.
  • Process appointments, including booking, rearranging, and issuing reminders.
  • Accept and issue receipts for non‑General Medical Services charges.
  • Enter patient information into the computer system accurately.
  • Receive and manage telephone calls, diverting and taking messages accurately.
  • Assist with home visit requests, recording all details.
  • Process repeat prescription requests and ensure timely collection.
  • Manage E‑Consults according to practice protocol, using judgment for urgent consultations.
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients.
  • Open premises at the start of the day, deactivate alarm, and prepare for patients.
  • Secure premises at closure, ensuring lights, air conditioning/fans off, and alarm activated.
  • Maintain reception area and notice boards, ensuring cleanliness and availability of information.
  • Assist with any additional duties requested by management to support efficient practice operation.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a GP practice or primary care setting.
  • Familiarity with EMIS Web and Docman systems.
  • Strong telephone and customer service skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to perform under high‑pressure and demanding situations.
  • Excellent communication and judgment skills.

Working Hours

Practice opening hours are 7:30 – 18:30 with extended hours commitments that may include an 8pm finish or Saturday morning work. Flexibility is required to accommodate rota demands and business needs.
