We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated and proactive Learning Support Assistant with experience supporting pupils with visual impairments and sensory needs to join Northfield School on a full-time supply basis for the upcoming academic year. This rewarding role involves providing one-to-one support for a pupil who is blind and uses a mobility cane. You will play a vital role in helping the student access all aspects of school life safely, confidently and independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing classroom support to enable full access to learning.
- Supporting the pupil with safe movement around the school environment.
- Assisting during lunchtimes, including explaining meal options and supporting independence.
- Describing visual information, learning resources and classroom activities.
- Working closely with teaching staff and the school’s SEND team to ensure the pupil’s individual needs are met.
- Promoting confidence, independence and inclusion throughout the school day.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant.
- Experience supporting pupils with visual impairments, sensory needs or other SEND requirements.
- A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
