We are seeking an enthusiastic Specialist Nurse within our Community Gynaecology Team to undertake routine ring pessary exchanges for patients with established ring pessaries as management of their uterovaginal prolapse. This is a permanent post and we are seeking 8 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Undertake routine ring pessary exchanges for patients with established ring pessaries as management of their uterovaginal prolapse on the current Community Gynae Patient Initiated Follow Up List.
- Provide routine ring pessary replacement, including assessment, safe replacement, management of complications, documentation, patient education and follow‑up.
- Deliver high‑quality nursing care, maintain accurate records and confidentiality, manage consultations, and contribute to service development and effective workload management.
- Maintain professional competence through appraisal, audit, quality improvement, and support the education of colleagues.
- Work in accordance with health and safety, infection prevention and security policies, manage risks, and report hazards.
- Promote equality, inclusion and dignity by providing respectful, compassionate, non‑judgemental care in line with legislation and policy.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times, accessing and sharing information only when required for the safe delivery of care.
- Promote the welfare of children and adults through safeguarding training, recognising concerns, protecting individuals from harm, and following organisational procedures.
- Participate in mandatory training, annual appraisal, and ongoing personal and professional development.
- Assist patients to identify their health needs, maintain accurate records in line with practice policy and NMC Guidelines using appropriate computer software.
- Contribute to the assessment of service needs and manage stock control including refrigeration, vaccine ordering, single‑use equipment, and general treatment room equipment.
- Participate in practice audit and quality development programmes, and in formal tutorials and informal training of colleagues.
- Co‑operate and participate as required in any research projects within the practice.
- Support the equality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues, respecting privacy, dignity, and beliefs.
- Maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with professional and PML policy and the NMC Code.
- Support safeguarding of children, young people and adults, and respond to concerns in line with the organisation’s Safeguarding Adults Policy and the Child Protection Policy.
- Guide and mentor junior nursing staff, healthcare assistants or students, offering guidance during busy periods and contributing to team problem‑solving.
- Provide tailored health education and lifestyle advice to patients and families, and support behaviour‑change interventions such as smoking cessation and weight management.
- Apply clinical reasoning, evidence‑based practice and guidelines to identify deterioration, make informed decisions and participate in incident reporting and safety checks.
- Work confidently within protocols, contribute to service development or pathway improvements, and participate in audits, clinical reviews and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain competence through CPD, reflective practice and training, engaging with learning related to long‑term conditions, clinical skills, diagnostics or expanded roles.
- Act with compassion, respect, fairness and integrity, model values‑based behaviour, and support an inclusive and culturally sensitive environment for patients and colleagues.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience delivering direct patient care within a healthcare setting.
- Experience working within agreed protocols and escalating clinical concerns appropriately.
- Experience in primary care, GP practice, out of hours, or community services.
- Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration.
- Relevant recognised nursing qualification (e.g., Diploma or Degree in Nursing).
- Evidence of post‑registration training relevant to primary care or community nursing.
- Competence in basic patient assessment, observations and clinical documentation.
- Good understanding of infection prevention, safeguarding and patient safety principles.
- Knowledge of NHS primary care systems and clinical IT systems.
