What we are looking for in a Headteacher
- Provides clear educational vision and strategic leadership that secures high‑quality provision and improved outcomes for all pupils.
- Has a strong track record of leading sustained school improvement, including the effective development and delivery of the School Development Plan.
- Uses robust self‑evaluation and quality assurance processes to identify priorities, monitor progress and secure impact.
- Leads the development of a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum, ensuring high‑quality teaching and improved learner progress.
- Demonstrates a secure understanding of Curriculum for Wales and wider educational reform, and leads change effectively.
- Promotes a culture of high expectations, inclusion and wellbeing, ensuring all learners are supported to achieve the best that they can.
- Demonstrates successful experience of whole‑school leadership, including managing staff performance, developing teams and building leadership capacity.
- Has the ability to motivate, support and challenge staff, addressing underperformance and promoting continuous professional learning.
- Builds effective relationships with staff, governors, families and the wider community, promoting the school as a central part of the community.
- Works collaboratively with partners, including other schools and agencies, to support ongoing improvement.
- Demonstrates resilience, integrity and sound judgement, with the ability to make difficult decisions and communicate them effectively.
- Ensures effective management of resources, including staffing, finance and the learning environment, to secure value for money and improved outcomes.
- Takes responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all pupils and staff.
Qualifications
Applicants are required to hold the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). The post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and to a “Safeguarding is Everybody’s Business” principle as per Swansea Council.
