Bank Role
The post is to specialise in all aspects of cleaning. Bank role – to cover various shifts Days, Evening, Twilight & Weekend Cover. The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt maintains a register of Temporary Workers ‘The Bank’. Joining the Trust’s Bank does not constitute a contract of employment between the bank member and the Trust. The Trust will notify bank members when a suitable assignment arises, and members will be able to choose whether or not to accept it. The bank worker is under no obligation to accept an offer of an assignment.
Responsibilities
- Organise own day‑to‑day activities to ensure the cleanliness of the area you are assigned to under the direction of the Housekeeping Manager or Deputy.
- Clean corridors, offices, stairs, toilets, bathrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, theatres and bedrooms on a frequent basis.
- Perform tasks including damp dusting all horizontal and vertical surfaces, high and low cleaning, replenishment of disposable items, emptying waste bins and deep cleans (where applicable).
- Work to NHS and Trust policies and standards of cleanliness and the required work frequencies as per the work schedules provided.
- Ensure correct use of chemicals and that handling, storage and safe usage are in line with COSHH regulations, data sheets and training given.
- Adhere to all aspects of Infection Control in all areas of work, including the use of colour‑coded equipment to prevent spread of infection.
- Observe and monitor the condition of the environment you clean and report any defects that will prevent you from carrying out your duties via the Trust Estates reporting mechanism.
- Assess the condition of all equipment you use and report any defects observed to ensure its continued quality and safety via the Trust Estates reporting mechanism.
- Maintain clear and accurate records providing documentary evidence that cleaning has taken place.
- Respond to any actions that may arise from cleaning monitoring audits and surface swabbing audits.
- Adhere to the outlet flushing regime set out by the Trust to minimise the accumulation of Legionella bacteria in water systems in accordance with relevant technical guidance.
- Report incidents, accidents and near misses that occur at work via the use of Datix.
- Ensure all work is carried out in strict accordance with the handling and moving training received to ensure your personal health and safety and that of others.
- Ensure all tasks are completed using the risk assessments and safe systems of work as instructed by your Housekeeping Manager or Deputy.
- Ensure patients privacy and dignity is maintained throughout your work.
- Carry out your duties adhering to the Lone Working procedures as per the training given by your manager.
- Report any problems that might arise from your duties.
- Ensure the security of stock whilst also monitoring and managing the stock levels and re‑ordering on a weekly basis or as required.
- Undertake surveys as part of own role, including review/testing of new equipment.
- Ensure that the assigned area of work is left secure by ensuring that where necessary all windows and doors are closed or locked, alarms are set and that lights are turned off.
- Co‑operate fully when new methods of work or frequencies of cleaning are introduced.
- Demonstrate own activities/tasks to new employees on a work shadowing basis.
- Act as a liaison for the service by responding to ad hoc requests via the Trust’s paging system.
- Physically utilise cleaning equipment such as pushing vacuum cleaners and trolleys, lifting buckets, mopping floors and operating cleaning machines on a frequent basis.
- Safely move small items of furniture, bags of linen and waste bags in adherence with Trust procedures.
- Take reasonable care to avoid injury to yourself and to others by performing work activities or omissions, and cooperate with your employer in the discharge of statutory duties.
- Concentrate when preparing cleaning chemicals ensuring correct dosage and dilution ratios are strictly adhered to.
- Place hazard signs to warn other users of the area in which you are carrying out a cleaning task.
- Never leave any piece of equipment or machinery unattended where it could be a source of danger to patients, staff, carers and visitors.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Housekeeping/Domestic Services or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Health & Safety, Load Handling, and COSHH knowledge.
- Previous experience in domestic cleaning.
- Previous experience in a hospital/healthcare environment.
- Ability to undertake best and safe practices under health & safety guidelines.
- Ability to follow written instructions, read notices and complete records.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
- Disclosure and Barring Service Check – subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.

Location
The hospital is located on a site outside Oswestry, just off the A5. The nearest train station is in Gobowen, approximately two miles from the hospital, on the Chester to Birmingham line.
