Job Overview
This role involves performing complex and non-routine maintenance, repair, and improvement of electrical plant and equipment across the Trust, ensuring compliance with safety standards and supporting business plans under the Electrical Operations Officer.
Responsibilities
- Technical fault finding, diagnosis, repair, acceptance testing and calibration on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment, including electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building control and automation, standby generator plant, security access control, nurse call systems and lifts.
- Undertake maintenance, repairs, minor improvements and capital work across the Trust in accordance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
- Assist the Electrical Operations Officer to deliver business plans, review planned maintenance procedures and support the organisation.
- Work primarily at the Basingstoke or Winchester site (also covering Andover) and may be required to work at other site locations.
- Work in accordance with electrical HTMs, statutory regulations, IET Wiring Regulations and Trust policies.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely following appropriate risk assessment.
- Work overtime for emergency repairs as required by management.
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Trust procedures.
- Perform technical fault finding on complex electrical systems and equipment using cause and effect analysis.
- Act as an Authorised Person for relevant systems such as LV/HV Electrical Systems and Lifts.
- Provide service lead role for areas covered as AP, including providing plans and schedules related to maintenance activities and major interruptions.
- Attend training courses as required to maintain competence.
- Follow engineering drawings and specifications, and all relevant regulations.
- Use relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines.
Qualifications
- Completion of a structured training programme in electrical engineering for a minimum of three years.
- HNC/HND/BTEC/ONC in electrical and electronic engineering plus relevant professional experience.
- 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations Certificate.
- Thorough knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
- Health & Safety awareness training.
- Asbestos awareness training.
- LV Authorised Person (training will be provided).
- HV Authorised Person (training will be provided).
- Emergency first aid training.
- Experience with specialist medical electrical systems such as IPS.
- Inspection and testing of generators and fire alarm systems.
- Minimum of one year post-qualification experience working in an electrical maintenance environment.
- Good awareness of health & safety legislation and experience working to safe systems of work.
- Experience working in an acute hospital environment.
- Experience with Building Management Systems.
- Good communication skills.
