Overview

Are you passionate about supporting people to get the very best from their education? Do you enjoy helping students develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed both academically and personally? The role of Library Support Tutor combines delivering an excellent library service and supporting students with information literacy skills through one-to-one sessions, small groups and in-class sessions.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality one-to-one and group support sessions to help students develop information literacy, research and study skills.
  • Plan and deliver workshops and classroom-based sessions on topics such as research, referencing, revision techniques, essay writing and critical thinking.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of a busy library, providing excellent customer service and helping to maintain a safe, inclusive and welcoming learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum, wellbeing and additional learning support teams to ensure students have access to the support they need to achieve their full potential.

Qualifications and experience

  • A degree (or equivalent) with experience of research.
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or a willingness to work towards this qualification).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and engage students from entry level through to higher education.
  • Strong digital skills, including Microsoft 365, Google Classroom and other online learning platforms.
  • Excellent research, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt support to meet individual learner needs.

Additional attributes

We welcome applications from candidates at different stages of their careers, including those with teaching, learning support, academic support or research-based experience. Previous library experience is beneficial but not essential, and we are keen to hear from applicants who can demonstrate a genuine interest in developing students’ information literacy, research and independent learning skills.

Working conditions and benefits

Annual salary: Circa £27,100 FTE; pay on a pro-rata basis in line with hours and term-time weeks worked. Hours: Term time only – 37 hours per week, 42 weeks per year.
