Overview

Jersey CAMHS is recruiting an additional Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join a multidisciplinary team of four consultants. The role involves providing routine and emergency assessment, diagnosis and management of children and young people up to 18 years, offering clinical support and advice to other agencies, and leading specialty work within the service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine and emergency assessment, diagnosis and management of children and young people with significant mental health problems up to 18 years.
  • Offer clinical support, advice and consultation to other team members and external agencies.
  • Develop a special interest and take a clinical lead in a specified area.
  • Support the clinical team in crisis situations, admission review and discharge planning.
  • Participate in teaching, supervision and quality improvement activities within the service.
  • Maintain documentation and use IT systems, including e‑mail and electronic health records.

Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and a licence to practise.
  • Completion of CCT and registration on the specialist register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or CESR and specialist register, or CCT with recommendation within 6 months.
  • Section 12 (Mental Health Law) approval or equivalent.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent.
  • Relevant higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc or other clinical qualifications).
  • Experience in acute and community child and adolescent psychiatric settings, crisis work, and risk assessment.
  • Experience with young people at risk of offending or who have offended, substance misuse, eating disorders, or neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Knowledge of risk management, recent therapeutic developments and drug advances in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
  • Proficiency in IT, including e‑mail and internet use.
  • Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with teaching qualification or previous experience as teaching lead.
