Description
Mojo Mortgages is building the UK’s most intelligent mortgage broker, combining human expertise with AI across the full customer journey. Data is the foundation everything sits on. As Head of Data, you will own the execution of our data roadmap, working directly with the VP of Engineering who sets the strategic direction. You will lead a team of five spanning analytics engineering, data science, and data engineering. Over the next 12‑18 months, you’ll drive the design and implementation of key data initiatives such as a unified customer view, building domain‑aligned data products, and enabling real‑time data analytics and reporting. This is a hands‑on leadership role; you will be working in BigQuery, dbt, and data pipelines yourself.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy Execution: Lead on data strategy execution, leading by example in a hands‑on capacity
- Data Foundations: Design and create the single source of truth for critical business entities and implement processes to ensure the business builds on solid data foundations
- Data Products: Develop data products that allow for controlled, self‑service data access
- Leadership: Lead and mentor the data team, fostering a culture of high performance and innovation
- Governance & Quality: Own data quality and governance in an FCA‑regulated environment, ensuring accurate audit trails
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Salesforce team to own Salesforce data models and ensure holistic governance
- Technical Alignment: Work with the VP of Engineering to ensure alignment with the wider technical strategy and business objectives
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Leadership Experience: Proven track record of leading data projects in fast‑paced environments
- Technical Mastery: Expert‑level proficiency in SQL, BigQuery, and modern data ingestion/transformation patterns
- Tooling: Experience with Looker, dbt, and Python
- Data Science: Ability to develop Machine Learning models and the required supporting infrastructure
- Architecture: Familiarity with modern data architecture patterns and real‑time data infrastructure
- AI & Automation: Familiarity with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code) and analytics agents
- Methodology: Strong background in Agile methodologies and Git for version control
- Soft Skills: Excellent people management, coaching, and communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with event‑driven architecture
- Experience with AI/LLM infrastructure and model evaluations
- A background in fintech or regulated financial services
