Overview

We are looking to appoint a Consultant Anaesthetist to complement a department of over 40 people in a busy District General Hospital. On‑call commitments will cover ICU. The ICU at Victoria Hospital has 10 beds, with approximately 400 level 3 patients admitted annually.

Clinical Scope

We provide anaesthesia and critical care for a wide range of specialty surgery including robotics, general surgery, breast, ENT, maxillofacial, obstetrics, gynaecology (general and oncology), trauma and orthopaedics, ophthalmology and paediatrics. Day surgery is performed at a stand‑alone unit in Dunfermline. We also provide support to an on‑site National Treatment Centre for elective orthopaedic work.

Professional Development

NHS Fife has an active postgraduate medical centre with fully stocked libraries and a comprehensive teaching programme with close links to Dundee, Edinburgh and St Andrews Medical Schools. Personal development is encouraged, as we are keen for individuals to pursue and develop special interests.

Qualifications

  • Medical post‑graduate qualification (e.g. FRCA, MRCP, FFICM).
  • On the Specialist Register or within six months of a Certificate of Completion of Training at the time of interview.
  • Full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligibility for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.
  • UK‑trained doctors: evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.
  • Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) route doctors: eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post only once awarded.
  • Non‑UK applicants: demonstrate equivalent training and the knowledge, skills and experience required for practising as an eligible specialist in the UK, and possess appropriate right to work or be eligible for sponsorship (must be confirmed before submitting application).
