Mechanical Technical Director (Data Centres) – London

Role Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the development, design, and coordination of engineering project services.
- Assist Directors with business strategy and management.
- Conduct cost and profit diagnosis, including feasibility studies and project fee proposals.
- Work closely with clients and project teams to establish project requirements.
- Review project status reports and adjust schedules or plans as necessary; prepare reports for management and clients.
- Specify applications of controls, instruments, and operating systems for building engineering services.
- Survey, test, and report on existing electrical/mechanical installations.
- Manage fiscal and commercial aspects to achieve target margins.
- Oversee construction and installation monitoring.
- Liaise with current clients to maintain long‑term relationships and identify future projects.
- Engage prospective clients and support business development.
- Ensure manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing meet functional specifications and customer requirements.
- Represent the company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams, and contractors.
- Perform engineering calculations to guarantee compliance with robust industry and legal standards.
- Contribute to local office management alongside senior management.
- Support tendering and procurement of MEP contractors and equipment.
- Lead coordination of engineering services and deliver concept and detailed designs.
- Maintain risk and performance monitoring through effective internal controls.
- Mentor and develop junior engineering team members.
- Produce technical white papers to promote RED’s capabilities.
- Participate in the sector management team.
- Create surveys and due diligence reports for existing data centres.
- Present technical papers at industry events.
- Take a holistic view in selecting and applying engineering concepts and solutions.
- Support project delivery from management, financial, QA/QC, and technical review perspectives.
Role Requirements
- BSc/BEng in an appropriate engineering discipline (e.g., Building Services) or equivalent experience.
- MCIBSE/MIEE or HND/HNC with relevant experience.
- Chartered Engineer status.
- Significant experience in specification design across various building types.
- Experience managing projects abroad (desirable).
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and key issues.
- Appreciation and knowledge of contract and business law.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Self‑motivated, flexible, and able to prioritize workload.
- Strong presentation, leadership, and mentoring skills.
- Chairing/facilitation of meetings.
- Background in consulting or construction preferred.
- Understanding of international operations of a global consultancy.
