We have a vacancy for a Trade Counter Technician at our Northampton Centre. Within this role, you will be expected to deliver a high level of customer service in operational and sales activities, ensuring customers receive a fast and efficient response to sales enquiries, building customer loyalty and enhancing the company’s reputation for service.

Key responsibilities and skills

  • Administrative support to the franchise principal
  • Answering the phone and helping the Centre Manager to control and direct the mobile engineers and vans
  • Always be well presented and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Assemble hydraulic hoses to customer requirements
  • Assist with stock control, ordering and product sourcing
  • Proactively sell to both existing and new customers in order to meet and exceed sales and margin targets, continually building and developing the customer base at the branch
  • Accurate and regular order entry to help achieve minimum time delay between receipt of order and dispatch of goods, thereby maximising sales/stock turnover
  • Log and process jobs through the Pirtek IT system
  • Pro-actively promote Pirtek products and services to walk-in customers
  • Day to day operation of the sales counter area, ensuring it is kept clean, presentable, well stocked and merchandised at all times
  • Actively promote Pirtek products and services to Trade Counter customers
  • Abide by terms and conditions in your Employment Contract and Confidentiality Agreement
  • Authoritative and senior aptitude/approach to ensure systems and procedures are followed
  • A methodical and consistent approach
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good communication skills both orally and written
  • Good telephone manner
  • Good computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A good understanding of computer accountancy software, preferably Sage or Xero
  • Always present yourself in a professional and courteous manner to all
  • Ability to work in a small organisation that expects a flexible work attitude
  • Ability to work in a ‘robust’ manual/engineering environment
  • No heavy lifting or other manual work is required

Work experience

Previous experience in a technical/engineering environment advantageous but not essential.

Educational requirements

GCSE in English and Maths.
