At Thrive Group, we are currently recruiting for a School Caretaker to join a welcoming and supportive school.

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day running of the school, helping to create a safe and positive space for pupils, staff and visitors.
Your Role
As the School Caretaker, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day maintenance, security and presentation of the school site. Working closely with the Headteacher, school staff and external contractors, your duties will include:
- Acting as the main keyholder, opening and securing the school premises.
- Managing site security, alarm systems and responding to emergency call‑outs.
- Coordinating maintenance and repair work, including overseeing contractors.
- Monitoring heating systems and ensuring site services operate efficiently.
- Maintaining the school grounds, pathways and outdoor areas, including during adverse weather.
- Carrying out general maintenance, minor repairs, porterage and emergency cleaning duties.
- Supporting the school with room set‑ups, deliveries and other site‑related tasks.
- Ensuring the school remains safe, clean and well‑maintained for pupils, staff and visitors.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous caretaking, facilities or general building maintenance experience.
- A practical, hands‑on approach with excellent problem‑solving skills.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and respond to changing demands.
- Good communication skills and a positive, customer‑focused attitude.Able to work independently as well as part of a team.A full, clean UK driving licence.
- A good understanding of health and safety and safe working practices.
- Basic IT skills and confidence using mobile devices.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Experience working within a school or educational environment.
- A recognised trade or technical qualification.
- Knowledge of fire safety, asbestos awareness, Legionella management and health and safety regulations.
