Overview

Rolling roster 5 over 7 days, various late and early shifts. At Hillingdon Hospital, our purpose is to provide high quality, safe and compassionate care, improving the health and wellbeing of the people that we serve. Our Facilities department provides a range of support services across the hospital, one of which is catering. We are recruiting for catering Supervisors to be part of our retail, Housekeeping and patient meal service team. Successful candidates will work with the catering management team to plan, organise, co‑ordinate and motivate the catering staff to achieve agreed performance objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure completion of hygiene records and documents as per HACCP (Hazards Analysis Critical Control).
  • Ensure staff maintain high standards of cleanliness and tidiness of all catering areas.
  • Support and assist in preparation and service of food and beverages for staff, patients, visitors and hospitality functions.
  • Ensure food regeneration and service to patients and staff is carried out to the required standard.
  • Assist with the management of stock: ordering, receipt, rotation, storage, stocking up and stock taking as required.
  • Assist with monitoring of cash handling, undertake till duties and follow cash handling procedures.
  • Support staff in the operational use of all catering equipment.
  • Ensure processes are followed for wash‑up of all equipment, machinery, crockery and cutlery associated with the catering service.
  • Monitor and support staff with appropriate disposal of refuse.
  • Report maintenance issues, machinery breakdown and pest sightings immediately.
  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure safe systems of work are adhered to.
  • Support with creation of work schedules and standard operating procedures.
  • Carry out service audits, patient and customer surveys in all areas periodically.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience of supervising staff in a catering setting.
  • Full understanding of food safety requirements and a current food hygiene certificate commensurate to the role.
  • Good level of general education.
  • Good level of English language and ability to communicate via face‑to‑face contact, telephone and email.
  • PC skills including word processing, spreadsheets, emails and maintaining a PC‑based diary.
  • Experience of completing staff rosters and allocating available resources to cover sickness and annual leave.
  • Ability to supervise and train a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to complete paperwork in a concise, accurate and clear manner.
  • Experience of staff management.
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to comply with service requirements in line with client policies.
  • Knowledge and awareness of relevant Health and Safety regulations in the workplace.
  • Supervisory or management qualification or equivalent; NVQ level 2–3 or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of catering equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience of catering stock items.
