A8 Ward Overview
A8 ward is a 34‑bedded unit specialising in acute medicine and renal conditions. It offers acute haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and renal biopsies. The ward is fast‑paced and challenging, providing many opportunities for clinicians to develop their skills while caring for acutely unwell patients. The team is hardworking, positive, friendly and committed to going the extra mile for our patients.
Shift Patterns
The role requires a mixture of night, day and weekend shifts to meet service needs:
- 07:00 – 19:30 and 19:00 – 07:30, seven days a week (including bank holidays)
Key Responsibilities
- Personal care, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort, and safety.
- Assist patients with mobility.
- Learn and respond to individual patient needs.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable clinical environment.
- Communicate with patients and their families.
- Manage stock levels for linen and other supplies.
- Record patient measurements (height, weight, BMI).
- Assist with specimen collection for ward or laboratory testing.
- Contribute to clear and concise paper and electronic documentation.
Required Skills and Experience
- Mathematics and English skills equivalent to Level1 Literacy and Numeracy.
- Ability to complete written and electronic records accurately.
- Competency‑based learning capacity.
- Experience caring for patients and providing customer‑focused services.
- Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in an acute care setting.
- Clear communication in English – written, verbal and via IT.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible to meet service needs.
Qualifications for Band3 Appointment
- NVQ / QCF Level3 in a health‑related subject or demonstrable equivalent experience with a completed competency‑based clinical skills framework.
- Completion of the Care Certificate or equivalent experience.
- NVQ / QCF Level3 in a health‑related subject or equivalent experience.
Additional Information
Priority will be given to staff at risk within North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust and Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care Board. The role is part of the NHS workforce and is protected under equality and diversity legislation.
