Job Overview
Applicants are invited to apply for the position of Locum Consultant in Gastroenterology with the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton. The role is a fixed‑term 12‑month contract, potentially renewable if the candidate is working towards CESR/Portfolio Pathway during the term.
Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver high quality endoscopy care across QHB and SRP sites, including colonoscopy, EMR, PEGs, and in‑patient endoscopy.
- Provide outpatient clinic services and inpatient care for a range of gastrointestinal and liver disorders.
- Participate in the national bowel cancer screening programme and support inter‑professional teams (clinical nurses, nutritionists, etc.).
- Attend on‑call duties as per the current 1:16 general medical coverage.
- Teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, including clinical skills, endoscopy training, and clinical decision‑making.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered consultant in Gastroenterology (CCT or subspecialised consultant).
- Evidence of experience in general medicine and gastroenterology, including independent clinical practice.
- Capability to manage clinical risk and make independent clinical decisions.
- Minimum one year NHS experience.
- Experience or interest in Hepatology, IBD, nutrition, GI cancer or therapeutic endoscopy.
- Experience supervising and teaching trainees (F1, F2, ST trainees) – preferred advanced teaching qualification.
- Possession of MRCP, MBBS or equivalent, Full GMC registration or being in the process of CESR application with evidence of submission.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) qualification or equivalent.
