We are recruiting a Management Accountant to take responsibility for the finance function across two growing companies operating in retail, wholesale, e-commerce and related business areas. This is an opportunity for an experienced finance professional who is ready to take ownership of monthly management accounts, reconciliations, KPI reporting, margin analysis, forecasting and wider business reporting across both companies.
This is not a traditional process-only finance role. You will work closely with senior leadership, external finance support and the wider management team, providing clear financial information and commercial insight to support decision-making.
Modern finance, systems and AI
Alongside core accounting work, we want someone interested in improving how finance operates. That may include better use of Excel, cleaner reporting models, automation of repetitive tasks, dashboard-style reporting and sensible use of AI tools to support analysis, checking and presentation of financial information.
You do not need to be an AI specialist, but you should be curious, practical and open to using modern tools to make finance more efficient and more valuable to the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts for two companies
- Post and review journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
- Manage month-end close processes and complete P&L and balance sheet reviews
- Reconcile sales, bank, payroll, stock and supplier data across both companies
- Prepare VAT information, cash-flow reports and forecasts, working with external advisers where appropriate
- Analyse sales, gross margin, stock movement, costs and profitability
- Prepare and present weekly and monthly KPI reports for management
- Identify margin leakage, cost issues, risks and performance trends, and recommend appropriate action
- Support and contribute to budgeting, forecasting and business planning across both companies
- Improve finance reporting processes using Excel, system reports, automation and AI-assisted tools where appropriate
What we are looking for
- Ideally at least 24 months relevant experience in management accounts, finance, accounts, audit or commercial analysis
- Practical experience of management accounts, journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and month-end processes
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
- Strong numerical and analytical ability
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to work with senior management and non-finance colleagues
- Commercial curiosity not just processing numbers, but understanding what they mean
- An interest in using Excel, systems, automation or AI tools to improve accuracy, reduce manual work and produce better management information
Useful, but not essential
- Part-qualified or studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA or ACA, or qualified by experience
- Experience with Xero or similar accounting software
- Experience in retail, wholesale, e-commerce, stock or inventory reporting
- Power BI, dashboard or reporting model experience
- Experience using tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude or similar platforms in work, study or personal projects
- Experience working across more than one company or legal entity
This role offers the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the finances of two growing companies while developing into a commercially focused finance partner. It would suit someone who wants more than a routine accounts role and is ready to build broader experience in reporting, analysis, systems improvement and commercial decision support.
