Locum Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedics

We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics with a specialist interest in Foot & Ankle Surgery. This post will support the delivery of high‑quality elective and trauma care within our busy Orthopaedic department, contributing to both inpatient and outpatient services.
The successful candidate will join a supportive and forward‑thinking team of consultants and play a key role in maintaining clinical continuity in foot & ankle services. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to service development and multidisciplinary care.
This locum post is available for an initial fixed‑term period, with the possibility of extension depending on service needs. The postholder will be expected to participate in the trauma on‑call rota and provide supervision to junior medical staff.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be responsible for delivering high‑quality care in trauma and orthopaedics, with a specialist focus on foot & ankle surgery. Duties include elective and trauma operating, outpatient clinics, participation in the on‑call rota, supervision of junior medical staff, and involvement in clinical governance activities.
Person Specification
Education, Training & Qualifications
- Full GMC registration
- MRCS
- Entry on specialist register or within 6 months of starting post
- ATLS
- Fellowship (paediatric)
Knowledge & Experience
- Commitment to education and training
- Experience of working in an MDT framework
Skills
- Organisational and management skills
- Communication skills
- Commitment to training and development
- Interest in clinical audit
- Evidence of previous audits in chosen subspecialties
- Published original work in peer review journals
- Evidence of working collaboratively with NHS and other agencies
- Ability to network with colleagues in specialist units
- Evidence of prizes or scholarships in chosen field
