Opportunity Overview
The University of Salford is looking to appoint an experienced and professional Operations Manager to join its in-house Security Team. Join a large, diverse university estate and help keep campus buildings safe, compliant and fully operational for staff, students and visitors. Our Security Team plays a critical role in ensuring the campus is safe, welcoming and fully functional every day.
Location: Salford, United Kingdom.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and contribute to the security strategy based on the core principles of deter, detect, delay, mitigate and respond.
- Manage, when required, supervisors and security officers employed in SIA‑licensed roles in support of the University’s obligations under the Private Security Industry Act 2001 and the Licensing Act 2003.
- Act as the second point of contact for safeguarding concerns, taking due regard to prevent radicalisation as outlined in the Counter‑Terrorism and Security Act 2015.
- Liaise with Greater Manchester Police during evacuation, invacuation and lockdown of campus buildings in support of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025.
- Act as the University Bronze (operational) lead in the event of an emergency such as fire, flooding, structural failure or release of hazardous materials.
About the Estates and Facilities Services Department
The Estates and Facilities team leads the development of our campus, creating engaging and innovative learning, working and living environments for colleagues, students and partners. The Directorate has over 300 employees and works with a wide range of external contractors. It delivers full estates and facilities management to the University, including capital development, property maintenance, cleaning, security, caretaking and landscaping across 33 buildings on five sites. The University is advancing its Campus Masterplan with a £2.5 bn investment over the next 20 years, in partnership with Salford City Council and the English Cities Fund, to create a new city district that will offer teaching, innovation, commercial, residential, green space and sustainable travel opportunities.

SIA qualification is an essential requirement prior to taking up this post. Driving licence required. DBS not required.
