Overview
Programme Facilitators in the Probation Service deliver Accredited Programmes and Structured Interventions to support people on Community Orders and licence after release from prison. They facilitate group and one‑to‑one sessions, manage group dynamics, monitor progress, keep accurate records, and collaborate with courts, probation staff and other criminal justice agencies to reduce re‑offending and protect the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver group and individual work to people at all risk levels, including domestic abuse, sexual abuse and violent offences.
- Design and run safe, structured sessions that meet varying learning styles and needs.
- Monitor risk, wellbeing and progress throughout each intervention.
- Keep accurate records and share insights with relevant teams.
- Work closely with courts, probation staff and external stakeholders to support sentence management.
- Provide workshops and briefings to probation staff and other external stakeholders.
- Use pro‑social modelling to reinforce positive behaviours and activities.
- Complete a 6‑month probationary period, including assessment centre participation and training certification.
- Travel to various locations within the regional area; travel expenses are claimable.
- Work unsocial hours, including evenings and Saturdays, and record attendance for unsocial hours payments.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant experience in behavioural interventions, group facilitation or a comparable social service role.
- Evidence of ability to manage group dynamics and challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and motivate others.
- Experience in maintaining accurate and timely records.
- Knowledge of criminal justice processes and professional behaviour expectations.
Working Conditions
- Standard full‑time working hours are 37 hours per week (excluding unpaid breaks).
- Option to work part‑time, flexible or job‑sharing patterns if the role’s needs are met.
- Hybrid working arrangements are available where business need allows; work must be performed within the UK.
- Unsurprising salary – starting at £28,064 with annual progression through the Competency Based Framework.
- Unsocial hours payments: 30% for evenings, 50% for Saturdays.
