About the role

Could you ensure that the troops on the battlefield are supplied with vital ammunition, food and water? If so, you could be a key part of the Royal Artillery team.

Age

You can join between the ages of 16 – 36. At the time of your application you will need to be between 15 years & 7 months old and 35 years & 6 months old.

Training and Experience

You can start as a Junior Soldier at the Army Foundation College from age 16. For those above 17 years & 6 months, the regular adult basic training applies. After successful completion, you will be sent to Larkhill in Wiltshire to become a qualified Gunner, with additional options such as the All Arms Commando Course for 29 Commando Regiment or the Basic Parachute Course for 7 Para Royal Horse Artillery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supply vital supplies, including ammunition, shells, and high‑tech air defence weapons, to troops on the battlefield.
  • Deliver food, water and vehicle spares quickly and safely.
  • Support logistics operations for artillery units, ensuring equipment and weaponry are maintained and ready for deployment.
  • Travel domestically and overseas to support operational requests.

Pay

Earn £27,282 a year from the start of your training, with increases throughout your career.

Qualifications and Training

  • Level 2 Express Delivery Apprenticeship
  • HGV truck licence
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
  • Computer Literacy and Information Technology Stage 1 (CLAIT)
  • NVQ in Learning and Development
  • Tracked vehicle driving licence

Deployment and Experience

As an Artillery Logistic Specialist, you will have opportunities to deploy on overseas exercises, partake in adventure training and work closely with a diverse team of soldiers.

Army Reserve Option

This role is also available in the Army Reserve, allowing part‑time service while maintaining a civilian career, with training on evenings and weekends.
