Summary

Join the National Trust team in Fermanagh and help shape how local people, volunteers and community groups connect with three of our most iconic places. This permanent role focuses on building partnerships, supporting volunteers, and creating meaningful opportunities for participation across Castle Coole, Crom and Florence Court.

You’ll be part of a team caring for exceptional landscapes, waterways and historic buildings, working closely with partners and volunteers to deliver conservation work, improve access and share the stories of these special places. With expanding community projects and new ways for people to get involved, it’s an exciting time to make a real impact.

You will be comfortable using computers in your day‑to‑day work and have experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams. Training will be provided on organisation‑specific systems where required.

Salary: £22,089 pro rata (FTE £27,612 per annum)

Contract: Permanent

Hours/working pattern: Part‑time 30 hours per week. Some weekend, occasional evening work and duty manager shifts.

Travel between National Trust sites and external meetings. A full UK driving licence is required.

Enhanced Access NI check will be done on appointment.

What it’s like to work here

This role is based in County Fermanagh, part of the National Trust’s Fermanagh & Mid‑Ulster Portfolio, and involves working across Castle Coole, Crom Estate and Florence Court.

Fermanagh is a rural, welcoming county known for its lakes, landscapes and strong community identity, roughly two hours from both Belfast and Dublin.

Castle Coole is Ireland’s finest neo‑classical house.

Florence Court lies eight miles from Enniskillen, near the border, set against Benaughlin and Cuilcagh mountains.

Crom Estate covers 2,000 acres on Lough Erne, rich in wildlife and heritage.

What you’ll be doing

As Community, Participation & Volunteering Coordinator, you’ll help shape how people connect with the National Trust across Fermanagh. You’ll champion inclusive, community‑focused engagement, working with the Manager to deliver opportunities that welcome people from all backgrounds.

Support volunteer managers across the three properties, giving them tools and confidence to create flexible, rewarding volunteering experiences. Develop new ways for people to get involved, strengthen relationships with local groups, and build meaningful pathways into our work.

Daily activities may include co‑creating projects with community partners, supporting volunteer teams, or exploring new approaches to participation.

  • A strong understanding of community engagement and participatory practice
  • Experience in increasing community participation and developing inclusive opportunities
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to coach and support others and work collaboratively across teams
  • Confidence in using data and insight to guide decisions
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including safeguarding, GDPR and equality
  • A proactive, empathetic and inclusive approach
