Your role
You will support the Highway Safety Inspections Manager in delivering an efficient and effective inspection service. We want you to:
- Supervise and support a team of Highway Inspectors, including performance management, mentoring and development.
- Undertake audit and quality assurance of completed safety inspections to ensure compliance with standards and policies.
- Plan and maintain safety inspection routes to ensure they are accurate, optimised and aligned with statutory requirements.
- Carry out detailed inspections of the highway network, identifying defects, assessing risk and determining appropriate remedial actions.
- Issue and manage works orders, ensuring repairs are completed safely, on time and to the required standard.
- Monitor and review performance data to support service improvement and delivery of key targets.
- Respond to enquiries from members, the public and internal teams, ensuring a high standard of customer service.
- Support the investigation of insurance claims, including providing reports and attending court where required.
- Liaise with contractors, utilities and stakeholders to support effective delivery of works.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, CDM Regulations and other relevant standards.
- Deputise for the Highway Safety Inspections Manager where required.
Your profile
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience in highways inspection, maintenance or asset management.
- Strong knowledge of highways legislation, standards and codes of practice.
- Proven experience of supervising staff and supporting team performance.
- Ability to assess defects and determine appropriate and cost-effective solutions.
- Experience of working with contractors and overseeing works on site.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience of handling enquiries, complaints and insurance claims.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Full UK driving licence.
