Job Overview
An exciting opportunity for a Senior Respiratory Clinical Physiologist to join the Pulmonary Function Department at Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Full‑time, Band 6.
Main duties
Provide comprehensive respiratory and oesophageal services, including but not limited to:
- Lung volumes and forced expiratory flows
- Respiratory gas exchange and blood gases
- Oximetry, plethysmography, oesophageal studies
- Cardio‑respiratory exercise studies
- Diagnostic sleep studies and challenge testing
- Community spirometry service with diagnostic reporting
- Equipment maintenance, calibration, and quality control
- Research participation and audit projects
- Teaching and training of trainees, students and staff
Key responsibilities
Assess and perform appropriate respiratory or oesophageal function tests, produce accurate reports, communicate findings to medical teams, ensure equipment is calibrated and maintained, contribute to clinical governance, audit, and research, and support service development.
Qualifications & Education
- BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent science subject
- ARTP Part I & II, Practitioner Certificate
- 2+ years’ post‑qualification experience as Band 5 respiratory physiologist
- Registered with ARTP and AHCS/HPC or working towards registration
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Expertise in a wide range of respiratory testing procedures
- Strong communication skills with patients and healthcare staff
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Leadership and CPD commitment
- Basic Life Support training and ILS for cardio‑pulmonary exercise testing
