Description

This role combines customer service, investigation, and fare enforcement. You’ll regularly interact with members of the public, make decisions in real time, and occasionally need to have challenging conversations regarding ticket validity and penalty fares.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • You will be working an average of 35 hours per week. Shifts will take place between 05:00 am and 01:00 am, including a combination of early, late, weekend, and bank holiday shifts.
  • You must be able to arrange your own transport to ensure timely arrival for early and late shifts.
  • Applicants must be over 18 years of age.
  • You should be prepared to work in all weather conditions.
  • Employment is subject to Right to Work and DBS checks, and where applicable, a medical assessment.
  • Salary progression for this role is:Year 1 £32,597Year 2 £34,399Year 3 £36,200Year 4 £38,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Ticket Inspection: Verify the validity of passengers’ tickets, ensuring compliance with fare regulations.
  • Fare Collection: If passengers cannot show a valid ticket, collect fares to maintain fair practices.
  • Penalty Fare Issuance: Issue penalty fare notices to passengers found traveling without a valid ticket, reinforcing compliance.
  • Interviewing Fare Evaders: Conduct interviews with suspected fare evasion following the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 guidelines.
  • Customer Service: Provide effective customer service and information about train schedules and local inquiries.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside police and other agencies during joint operations, submitting reports and attending court when required.
  • Work closely with a partner, receiving training in conflict management, customer service, and clear directions.
  • Create a welcoming environment in challenging situations, enhancing passenger satisfaction.
  • Day-to-day duties involve working on trains or conducting revenue exercises at stations.
