Job Description:

Swindon Borough Council are on an exciting journey to transform service delivery. We want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart, because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council you’ll support a friendly Local Authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services, better processes and a better quality of life for everyone. Join us and Swindon will be better with you.

You are a highly experienced Support Officer. You are used to supporting busy regulatory professionals in all office‑based aspects of their work. You have exceptional attention to detail, high integrity and work accurately to tight deadlines. You are able to prioritise and manage your own workload. You are passionate about providing an exceptional service to your client groups and always looking for ways to improve and optimise the service you provide.

Your knowledge and experience of supporting Council admin functions and your passion for excellent customer service make you our ideal candidate.

Your next role

You will, with other Regulatory Support Officers and the Lead Regulatory Support Officer (LRSO), become the enabling engine of the Environmental Health & Regulatory Services group of front‑line professionals. You will provide a critical basket of enhanced support services to those professionals, bridging the gap between centralised enabling functions and the teams seeking to maximise their positive impact for Swindon residents and visitors every day.

You will ensure that office‑based processes for Regulatory Services, including Licensing, Trading Standards and Environmental Health are completed. You will process and assign complaints and requests for service, support the LRSO in the management of contracts, helping to provide regular management and financial information to enable essential oversight and governance processes. You will support the LRSO as the conduit between frontline teams and central enabling services to minimise delays and maximise outcomes.

You may be asked to attend the groups management meetings, helping to optimise processes and develop new processes to constantly expand your team’s contribution. You will help the LRSO to develop and maintain specialist applications. You will assist the LRSO to help the teams grow their services and take on new regulatory duties, driving income generation and sustainability.

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.

For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re‑vitalised Swindon together and you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.

Potential applicants are sometimes put off if they don’t meet 100% of the requirements. We think individual experience, skills and passion make all the difference, so if you meet the majority of the criteria, we’d love to hear from you.
