Shop Volunteer (Till & Customer Service – Crickhowell)

Your local British Red Cross shop offers a range of activities for volunteers. From sorting stock and preparing donated items for sale to providing excellent customer service to donors and customers, the shop is a great place to learn and share new skills.

We are currently looking for Till & Customer Service volunteers to help us in our shop.

If you have a positive outlook, enjoy speaking to new people and are confident in learning how to use a shop till, this may be for you.

Typical responsibilities

  • Using the shop till to take payment for items
  • Promoting Gift Aid to maximise fundraising potential
  • Helping and advising customers
  • Undertaking general activities in the shop (e.g. sorting donations, maintaining displays)

No experience is needed. Full training will be provided.

Availability

A few hours during the week or weekend as agreed with the shop manager. There is no minimum commitment or fixed hours; we only ask that you agree on hours you can attend and let us know if your availability changes.

Benefits

  • Meet new people and be part of a dynamic, inclusive team
  • Gain or pass on retail experience
  • Opportunity to develop existing skills or learn new ones
  • Reasonable pre‑agreed travel expenses for the role, including training
  • Make a positive difference with the world’s largest humanitarian organisation

Why we want you

We thrive on volunteers who bring their authentic selves and help spread kindness. We welcome refugees, asylum seekers and anyone else in the UK to volunteer.

Diversity and Inclusion

We celebrate diversity and aim to create an inclusive environment. Our expenses policy prioritises volunteers not being out of pocket for role‑related costs. If upfront costs are difficult, speak to your volunteering manager to find alternatives.

Health and Safety

We take an individual approach to ensuring your safety; we may ask you to complete a simple risk assessment and discuss adjustments you may need. Some locations may not be suitable for 15‑17 year olds; please contact us to find alternative opportunities.
