The role

We are looking for a Support Worker to join our Single Homeless Pathways team at Southern Housing.

In this role you will work as part of a team across multiple locations, providing support services to vulnerable residents and promoting independence within their homes and the wider community. You will facilitate daily living, social skills, health and wellbeing for people who are young or have complex needs, helping them develop independent living skills and prevent future homelessness.

This is a full‑time position based at various schemes around the Island – Newport, Sandown, Shanklin, Ryde. The service runs 24/7; you will be required to undertake sleep‑in duties (if applicable) and may need to be on the on‑call rota. A full UK driver’s licence is required.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide support to residents and service users through the principles of Housing First and psychologically informed environments, as identified in their needs assessment and support plan.
  • Deliver services using a strengths‑based approach that promotes independence, rights, choices, dignity and inclusion; summon professional assistance in emergencies.
  • Practice within the criteria set by the Local Authority, ensuring up‑to‑date support plans that reflect residents’ needs, wishes and agreed outcomes.
  • Deliver key working sessions, promoting engagement, writing plans to help residents achieve their goals.
  • Maintain and develop professional relationships with residents and stakeholders.
  • Promote life and social skills and encourage resident involvement, supporting the successful implementation of the Customer Involvement Framework.
  • Signpost and access specialist services as required to meet identified outcomes.
  • Assist with security of the resident’s home and maintaining a safe living environment.
  • Follow health and safety policies, procedures, lone‑working and infection control, and the SI&C QA Guide for Health and Safety.

What you’ll have

  • A good level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Empathy, compassion and patience.
  • Adaptability to changing working environments.
  • A willingness and ability to train towards an NVQ 2 in Care.
  • At least 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above (or equivalent, Grade 9–5) including Maths and English.
  • Willingness to train towards an NVQ 3 or equivalent relevant work‑based qualification.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain underpinning knowledge required for the role.
