Community Healthcare Assistant – St Austell Community Nursing Team

The Community Nursing service serving St Austell and surrounding areas in central Cornwall is offering a role for highly motivated and enthusiastic Community Healthcare Assistants. The successful candidates will provide nursing care to adults in their own homes, including those approaching end‑of‑life, and may occasionally cover cross‑locational duties in central Cornwall.
The role is predominantly lone working with support from a team and requires a range of clinical skills such as simple dressings, venepuncture and personal care. It encourages professional development through our community matrix, allowing progression according to your interests. Applicants must have a valid UK driving licence or be able to travel independently to the base, patients’ homes and other venues across the geographical area. Mileage is paid at Agenda for Change rates, and travel time between visits is incorporated into your working shift.
Main duties of the job
- Carrying out assigned tasks including personal care for patients at the end of their lives, wound care and venepuncture.
- Working without direct supervision and providing support to registered nurses and to patients and carers.
- Managing care activities across a defined geographical area within flexible rota shifts from 8 am to 10 pm, including an on‑call system.
Skills and aptitude
- Ability to work independently and manage time constraints.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to cope under pressure.
Education and qualifications
- Evidence of experience in a care setting.
- NVQ Level 3 qualification in Care or equivalent experience.
