Freightliner is a rail freight operator, providing intermodal and heavy haul services across Europe and the UK.
Responsibilities
- Attend and report for duty at the time and place directed, ensuring you are physically fit to carry out the duties of a Train Driver.
- Operate traction unsupervised in a safe manner.
- Absorb and retain knowledge of traction, routes, rules and regulations, and operating notices.
- Adjust driving technique to suit prevailing conditions such as weather and rail conditions.
- Vigilantly observe all signals applicable to train movements and immediately report any irregularities to the signalman concerned.
- Seek explanations for any delay from the signalman concerned so that relevant people receive up‑to‑date information.
- Report to Network Rail by the most expeditious means, typically to the controlling signalman, any safety of line incident that may require action or protection to be put in place.
- Carry out emergency procedures when required, including initial HABD examinations and use of the ‘Tempilstik’.
- Sign, possess and read all notices and publications affecting your Traincrew Route Knowledge; maintain and update these as required for traction and route knowledge and for the safe running of trains.
- Wear full uniform and safety clothing as supplied.
- Respond to service faults and failures, reporting as necessary to Freightliner Control and/or Help Line.
- Cover the Standards Manager position as and when required (refer to Standards Manager JD).
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Supervisor or Manager.
