Overview
We are looking for a Newly Qualified Employment Lawyer to join our Legal team at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). Responsibilities
- Provide advice and support to the People Team during investigations, disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance matters.
- Draft and advise on settlement agreements and, with supervision, on TUPE, restructuring, redundancy and organisational change.
- Support the management of Employment Tribunal cases, including collating bundles, liaising with the tribunal, ACAS and counsel; support case strategy and evidence collation.
- Draft and review employment documentation, outcome letters, policies and guidance.
- Research and apply legislation, case law and guidance and prepare clear written advice notes with options and risk analysis.
- Attend meetings and work closely with HR and managers to identify risk and recommend practical solutions; escalating complex or high‑risk matters appropriately.
- Familiar or have experience of working in a unionised environment.
- Build relationships and provide employment law support to key partners, including the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
- Contribute to training, guidance and continuous improvement across the organisation.
- Support wider transformation programmes and help ensure TfGM remains compliant and prepared for changes in employment legislation.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or due to qualify shortly) with exposure to employment law.
- Strong grounding in UK employment law principles.
- Ability to provide clear, practical and risk‑based advice to non‑legal stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Collaborative approach and ability to work across teams.
- Commitment to inclusion, respect and delivering great outcomes for customers and colleagues.
