AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and manage the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

As Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operates at peak efficiency. This includes planned preventive maintenance, daily corrective work, emergency response, and acting as the primary focal point for all facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train and support the Engineering team in troubleshooting and operating electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Implement and execute site‑specific training exercises covering generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, and related equipment.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data center sites.
  • Operate independently with limited direct management.
  • Assist in the design and build‑out of new facilities and perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Serve as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues within the data center region.
  • Troubleshoot and report facility and data‑center level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Create and deploy standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and AWS staff.
  • Respond to after‑hour emergency calls and assist in the investigation, mitigation, and recovery of issues.
  • Provide 24/7 support as needed, including after‑hours assistance.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience with MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Experience with power management and power monitoring systems.
  • City & Guilds/NVQ Level 4 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
