Job OverviewBased within our Engineering Department, our Automation Engineer will be responsible for control systems engineering projects and maintenance activities within a manufacturing environment.You will be a critical member of the Engineering team and will take the lead role in improving equipment and process control systems reliability across all company assets of our pharmaceutical plants.
Main Activities/Tasks
- Be part of the engineering team that deliver Norbrook’s Capital investment program to ensure facilities & equipment are Fit for purpose as defined by Norbrook’s EHS policies, Quality management system and Norbrook’s strategic plan.
- As part of a multi skilled engineering team, provide automation expertise to key projects being considered for delivery of new products and resolving technical issues as identified across all Norbrook sites.
- Enhance project engineering capability and processes to deliver capital programme on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality.
- Ensure automated equipment are efficiently and effectively maintained whilst adhering to company SOPs.
- Enforce quality driven methodologies for implementing changes and improving equipment reliability.
- Providing technical support for automation systems specifications, planned maintenance, development and troubleshooting.
- Provide project lifecycle documentation, including but not limited to; requirements documents, specification documents, data sheets, electrical drawings, commissioning documents.
- Carry out computer (control) systems owner activities, to include configuration management and data control; ensuring that activities are carried out and records kept in line with cGxP regulations
- Ensuring that external contractors are adhering to Norbrook procedures while on site at all times.
Essential Criteria:
- Applicants must therefore demonstrate the following essential criteria on their application form in order to be considered:
- Higher Level qualification in an engineering discipline & minimum of 3 years relevant experience
- In depth knowledge of process control and instrumentation
- Strong technical skills
- Experience in carrying out PLC based control system fault finding and planned maintenance
- Ability to understand PLC logic code (Siemens/Mitsubishi) for the purpose of troubleshooting
- Logical and well organised approach to problem solving
- Ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment, to operate under time pressure
- Ability to work as part of a team or unsupervised
Desirable Criteria:
- Ability to program Siemens and/or Mitsubishi PLC’s
- ATEX qualified
- Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Experience of technical documentation writing (e.g. SOP’s, Instrument/Equipment Specifications)

- This role will be based in a site that produces and handles penicillin, and as such, this role would not be suitable for those that have a penicillin allergy.
