AI Engineer

The role is an AI Engineer that will design, build, and deploy Generative AI and AI‑driven applications using GCP and leading LLMs such as ChatGPT (OpenAI) and Claude (Anthropic). The position is hybrid in London and involves moving AI from prototype to production.

Responsibilities

• AI Solution Design & Delivery: Design, build, and deploy AI‑powered applications (chatbots, copilots, document intelligence, decision‑support tools) for insurance use cases; implement Retrieval‑Augmented Generation patterns; build LLM‑based workflows and agents.
• Cloud & Platform Engineering (GCP): Deploy solutions on GCP leveraging Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Run, secure API integrations; build scalable, resilient, compliant architectures; integrate AI services into existing applications.
• Data, MLOps & Engineering: Work with Data Engineers and Analysts to prepare, embed, and manage data (vector databases, embeddings); implement CI/CD, monitoring, logging, model performance tracking; ensure maintainable, reusable, cost‑effective solutions.
• Responsible AI & Governance: Design solutions aligned with Responsible AI, GDPR, insurance regulations; implement controls for data privacy, prompt safety, hallucination mitigation, auditability; partner with Risk, Compliance, Security teams.
• Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Engage product owners, underwriters, brokers, operations, technology teams; translate business problems into AI solutions; explain AI concepts, limitations, outcomes to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to AI standards: Help shape Brown & Brown Europe’s AI standards, patterns, reusable components.

Qualifications

• Core Engineering: Strong Python development (production‑grade); experience integrating AI services via APIs and building backend services; familiarity with version control, testing, CI/CD.
• Generative AI & LLMs: Hands‑on experience with ChatGPT/OpenAI APIs and/or Anthropic Claude; prompt engineering, system prompts, evaluation techniques; implementation of RAG, vector databases, semantic search.
• Cloud Platforms: Strong experience with GCP, especially Vertex AI; Docker/containerised workloads; cloud security, IAM, cost management.
• Data & AI Tooling: Working with structured and unstructured data; vector stores, embeddings, document processing pipelines; exposure to orchestration frameworks (LangChain‑style).

Domain Experience (Highly Desirable)

• Experience delivering AI or data solutions in insurance or financial services.
• Understanding of underwriting, claims, broking, compliance workflows.
• Experience in regulated environments with strong data protection requirements.

Education & Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, or the like (or equivalent practical experience).
• Demonstrated experience delivering AI solutions to production.
• A strong portfolio of real‑world AI or GenAI implementations is highly valued.
