Support Services Manager (Band 5)
Job overview
We are recruiting a Support Services Manager to be responsible for managing the Domestic and Portering Service at the Trust, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and service are maintained, whilst making efficient and economic use of resources.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of a large team of staff, purchase of cleaning materials within a set budget, whilst ensuring NHS Cleaning Standards and relevant legislations, such as Health and Safety and Waste Management and PLACE Standards are adhered to.

- Management of Portering Services across the Trust
- Domestic and clinical waste, transportation, storage, correct segregation and consignment of waste;
- Response to emergency incidents, such as fire alarms, bomb threats, crash calls and security incidents; major incidents;
- Hospital Equipment Store and Medical Equipment transfers;
- Deceased patient transfers;
- Post Room;
- Preparation and support re ward move/transfers;
- Medical Gases Management (Halton).
Domestic Services
- Management of Domestic Services provided to clinical and non-clinical areas;
- Responsible for maintaining of cleanliness standards;
- Provision of technical advice re cleaning systems and processes for the Trust;
- Curtain management;
- Laundering of mops and patient slings;
- Emergency cleaning response to clinical areas, re infection outbreaks, etc. (including Task Team);
- Emergency cleaning response within public areas
- Responsible for the Cleaning Equipment Contract (e.g. buffing machines, hoovers, scrubbing machines).
The post-holder will also be required to support the Facilities Management Team with other Facilities related service issues (e.g. post, linen, sewing and waste)
Person specification
Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma in Cleaning Science (BICS)
- Supervisory Management Qualification or equivalent level of experience
Experience
- Several years’ experience of managing a large team of staff in the delivery of a Cleaning/ Portering Service and other Facilities Services
- Knowledge of operational facilities management in the public sector.
Skills
- Knowledge of cleaning science and infection control
- Current knowledge of cleaning methodologies, materials, equipment and products
