Controls the execution / installation of a technical discipline at the installation site.

Role Overview

This role is responsible for performing highly visible on‑site and remote software installations and upgrades across the Varian software portfolio. The position requires a combination of technical expertise, customer focus, and the flexibility to travel to customer sites as required, while also supporting customers through remote delivery and virtual environments.

Location

Ideally based in United Kingdom, but this role is part of our global team and may involve additional travel within EMEA. The jobholder should live near an International Transport hub.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform on‑site and remote installations, upgrades, troubleshooting, and diagnostics of Varian software products.
  • Work across physical and virtual environments, including operating systems, databases, networking technologies, and virtualization platforms.
  • Review scopes of work to ensure all required hardware and software components are available prior to installation.
  • Assess customer IT infrastructure and project plans to confirm alignment with documented installation requirements.
  • Complete all required technical and quality documentation in accordance with Varian Quality processes and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate customer system inventories using Site Equipment Configuration documentation or equivalent tools.
  • Remain current on Varian products and technologies through internal and external training, certifications, and continuous learning.
  • Create and maintain required accounts with Vendor Credentialing Systems (VCS) to support customer site access.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, local service teams, and hardware installation teams to deliver world‑class customer service.
  • Perform upgrades, new installations, and team lead responsibilities on small to medium‑scale software projects with limited supervision.
  • Record detailed installation and upgrade activities in company systems to ensure accurate and up‑to‑date customer information.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism, safety, and compliance with VMS guidelines and customer regulations when working on‑site or remotely.
  • Submit field service reports (FSRs), timesheets, and expense reports accurately and on time.
  • Follow prescribed escalation and problem‑resolution procedures, requesting technical support when required.
  • Participate in planning calls, providing technical input and guidance as needed.
  • Advise customers on Customer Technical Bulletins, Release Notes, and other product documentation, highlighting their importance.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced Installation Representatives.

Minimum Required Skills And Knowledge

  • Proficient computer usage, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
  • Professional experience with Microsoft‑based server operating systems.
  • Strong customer‑focused mindset with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluency in the local language and English, both written and spoken.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of networking concepts and technologies.
  • Functional knowledge of Citrix and VMware environments.
  • Familiarity with business tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and time‑reporting systems.
  • Associate Degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1–3 years of relevant, transferable experience in a technical or customer‑facing role.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites as required, alongside supporting remote and hybrid working models.
