Macmillan Cancer Information Support Manager

The Cancer Directorate are looking to recruit an experienced Manager to be responsible for the overall management of the Cancer Support Service, which supports cancer patients with all of their non-clinical needs. The service comprises of staff from a variety of backgrounds and can support and signpost patients with a wide range of concerns, including, but not limited to, financial worries, emotional concerns, Macmillan grants and support groups.
The Cancer Support Team collaborates with teams across the Trust that care for cancer patients to record and evaluate current ways of working to better understand the patient journey and how the recovery package can be incorporated into their care pathway.
The role will be challenging, rewarding and outcome focused, delivering Cancer Support services via our dedicated information service, navigators and co‑ordinating and supporting pathway changes to provide patient‑centred care.
Applicants will have experience of delivering cancer support to patients or other similar experience and be committed to excellence in service delivery and continuous improvement.
As the Macmillan Cancer Support Service Team Manager you will be working closely with the Trust’s Cancer specialists across the Cancer Directorate and trust.
You must have excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, be adaptable, flexible, and innovative. You must have the ability to work on your own as well as within a team and be highly motivated to deliver excellence.
Main duties of the job
This position oversees the management of the multi‑disciplinary team who are responsible for the delivery of cancer information and support services across CUH (Cambridge University Hospital) including the Cancer Navigators, Cancer Support advisors and ensuring the delivery of Personalised Care and Support.
The post holder will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operational management of the service and team. The service forms an integral part of the wider cancer service and the post holder will be required to work collaboratively with both clinicians and the cancer management teams to ensure necessary systems and processes are in place to enable ease of access to high‑quality, accurate, up‑to‑date information and suitable support across all stages of the cancer pathway.
Developing the Recovery Package tools, the post holder will be required to pay attention to and take due consideration to provide a service that crosses boundaries between community and acute care and which recognises the needs and challenges of users who travel across the network for treatment.
The post holder will be responsible for and oversee electronic Health Needs Assessment (eHNA) for cancer, Health & Wellbeing events and Treatment Summaries for people affected by cancer.
Be responsible for the recruitment and management of the cancer support service staff.
