Summary

Genesis is seeking an experienced Electrical/Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer to support long-term capital and maintenance projects at industrial facilities in the Birmingham, Alabama area. The successful candidate will provide electrical and instrumentation engineering services for projects ranging from conceptual design through detailed engineering, procurement support, construction, commissioning, and startup.

Location and Position Type

Birmingham, Alabama; Full-Time.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical and instrumentation engineering deliverables for industrial projects.
  • Design medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Prepare engineering documents including:
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Motor elementary and schematic diagrams
    • Cable schedules
    • Wiring and interconnection diagrams
    • Grounding and lightning protection plans
    • Lighting layouts
    • Equipment installation details
  • Develop instrumentation design packages including:
    • Instrument Index
    • Instrument Data Sheets
    • Loop Diagrams
    • I/O Lists
    • Instrument Location Plans
    • Installation Details
    • Control Narratives
  • Specify field instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical instruments, and control valves.
  • Perform instrument sizing calculations and control valve sizing.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, and Piping disciplines.
  • Review vendor drawings, equipment submittals, and technical documentation.
  • Support procurement activities through technical bid evaluations and equipment selection.
  • Participate in field investigations, site walk-downs, and design verification.
  • Provide construction support by responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), resolving field issues, and reviewing contractor submittals.
  • Assist with equipment checkout, startup, commissioning, and system acceptance testing.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes, client specifications, and industry standards.
  • Support project schedules, budgets, and quality objectives while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years of electrical and instrumentation engineering experience in industrial facilities.
  • Experience supporting heavy industrial, manufacturing, mining, metals, chemical, power , or pulp and paper projects.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Electrical Code (NEC)
    • NFPA standards
    • IEEE standards
    • ISA standards
  • Experience preparing electrical and instrumentation construction packages.
  • Ability to interpret Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with:
    • Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
    • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
    • SCADA systems
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Previous experience supporting Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
