Overview
Our Defence and Security provides design and engineering services for nuclear and defence clients across the UK and abroad. Our team is experiencing exciting growth and long-term prospects within our established practice, and we are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to design large industrial facilities, e.g. power station buildings, large manufacturing facilities, dockyards, etc. We offer hybrid working with 1-2 days in our Glasgow or Reading office. Occasional site visits may be necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform assessment and design and monitor the ongoing process of a project, including coordination with the project delivery team.
- Lead and work with a team of EC&I engineers/designers in developing engineering deliverables throughout various stages of the project.
- Prepare drawings, functional and technical specifications, and contract documents.
- Perform calculations and evaluations in the design of equipment and systems for industrial applications.
- Interface and coordinate with Safety Case and System Engineering teams.
- Participate in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, project team members and project delivery team.
- Author, review and check technical deliverables.

Requirements
- Possess in‑depth knowledge of the electrical engineering discipline.
- Experience in design of HV/LV distribution systems and associated control and protection systems.
- Experience in LV cable sizing and use of cable sizing software (AMTECH).
- Experience in electrical building services design.
- Experience in a contracting environment with relevant site experience.
- Willing to travel when required.
Desirable
- Experience in HV distribution and use of cable sizing software (ETAP).
- Experience in Fire Alarm and Security systems design.
- Background in project design/engineering work in the Nuclear and Defence sector.
- Professionally qualified (e.g. Incorporated/Chartered Engineer) with a degree (preferred but not required) in the relevant discipline.
- Experience with Nuclear Safety‑Implicated systems.
- Experience using AutoCAD/Revit software.
- Demonstrated record of maintaining own skills and knowledge at the forefront of the field.
