Are you an experienced facilities and asset management leader ready to shape the future of South Yorkshire’s public estate? We’re looking for a strategic, forward‑thinking professional to join SYMCA as our Head of Facilities and Asset Management, a pivotal role ensuring our estate is safe, compliant, resilient, and delivering maximum value for our communities.

About the role

As Head of Facilities & Asset Management, you will take strategic responsibility for the management of SYMCA’s diverse estate, including the Advanced Manufacturing Park Technology Centre, major transport interchanges and bus infrastructure, our Head Office, and a range of legacy properties and land. You will lead the development and delivery of our asset and estates strategy, ensuring our facilities effectively support SYMCA’s transport and economic ambitions. Your role will encompass facilities management, statutory and landlord compliance, asset data and systems (including CAFM/AMS), capital investment planning, and identifying commercial opportunities across the full asset lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the strategic asset management function across our full estate portfolio.
  • Developing and delivering the annual Facilities and Estate Asset Management Plan.
  • Ensuring statutory compliance, robust health and safety management, and strong governance across all sites.
  • Overseeing supplier and contract management, including SLAs, KPIs, and performance reviews.
  • Managing capital and revenue investment planning, prioritisation, and reporting.
  • Driving continuous improvement in FM service delivery.
  • Managing tenant relationships and identifying opportunities for land use, disposal, or commercial development.
  • Leading, inspiring, and developing a high‑performing Facilities and Assets team.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across Business Operations, Finance, Procurement, Legal, Marketing, and Customer Services.

About you

  • A degree‑level qualification or equivalent, plus a higher‑level Facilities or Asset Management qualification.
  • Significant experience in facilities and asset management, ideally at senior level.
  • Strong understanding of statutory and regulatory H&S requirements (e.g. PUWER, LOLER, CDM, MHSAW).
  • Proven experience in contract management, supplier performance, and FM service improvement.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Experience leading teams, delivering change, and managing complex estates.
  • Commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret complex asset information and make evidence‑based decisions.
  • CPD commitment; NEBOSH and IWFM membership are desirable.

Benefits

  • Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Holiday entitlement of 28 to 36 days annual leave (depending on length of service) plus bank holidays.
  • Annual Leave Purchase Scheme – ability to purchase up to a further 15 days per year in addition to normal annual leave.
  • Hybrid working – roles offered on a hybrid basis (except support roles onsite full time).
  • Flexible Hours Scheme – flexibility for office‑based employees to accrue credit or debit of working hours, with Flexi‑Leave or banked Annual Leave.
  • Reward Gateway – discounts, benefits, financial advice, wellbeing solutions and more.
  • Cycle‑to‑Work schemes.
  • Training on the job – support with upskilling and qualifications.
  • Professional Membership Fees – reimbursement where applicable and approved.
